{"id":29715,"date":"2017-11-08T14:20:33","date_gmt":"2017-11-08T09:20:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=29715"},"modified":"2017-11-08T14:20:33","modified_gmt":"2017-11-08T09:20:33","slug":"india-launches-probe-into-incident-involving-indigo-airline-staff-manhandling-a-passenger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=29715","title":{"rendered":"India launches probe into incident involving IndiGo airline staff manhandling a passenger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NEW DELHI Nov 08 (TNS):<\/strong> A video allegedly showing security staff of India\u2019s IndiGo airline manhandling a passenger went viral on Monday, prompting the federal government to launch an investigation into the incident involving the country\u2019s biggest airline.<\/p>\n<p>In the video, widely shared on social media and televised on local news channels, at least two IndiGo staff members can be seen pinning a passenger down on the ground after an argument on the tarmac at New Delhi airport.<\/p>\n<p>The male passenger shouts and attempts to fight back but is overpowered by the IndiGo staff.<\/p>\n<p>Media could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is absolutely unacceptable,\u201d Jayant Sinha, India\u2019s junior minister for civil aviation told the media.<\/p>\n<p>The airline has been asked to submit a report on the incident to the aviation ministry by Wednesday, after which the government will see what action needs to be taken, Sinha said.<\/p>\n<p>IndiGo, which is owned by InterGlobe Aviation Limited and flies about one in every two passengers in the country, said it had apologised to the passenger after the incident, which local media said occurred on October 15.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhatever may have been the provocation, our staff were completely out of line and didn\u2019t follow laid down procedures,\u201d Indigo President Aditya Ghosh said. \u201cEven while the investigation was going on we immediately suspended the involved employees.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similar incidents have been reported elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>In April, a video showing a passenger being dragged from US-based United Airlines aircraft in Chicago after he refused to give up his seat also went viral, sparking a public outcry and forcing the airline to apologise.<\/p>\n<p>India has recently implemented new rules barring troublesome passengers from flying for up to two years after a lawmaker admitted assaulting an airline official.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, IndiGo faced a raft of criticism on social media.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTake action against Indigo airlines for the unruly action against the passenger, I am not travelling this airline now,\u201d Twitter user Manish Dhanuka\u200f wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NEW DELHI Nov 08 (TNS): A video allegedly showing security staff of India\u2019s IndiGo airline manhandling a passenger went viral on Monday, prompting the federal government to launch an investigation into the incident involving the country\u2019s biggest airline.
