ISLAMABAD, Nov 16 (TNS):<\/strong>Minister for Commerce and Textile, Pervaiz Malik, who is currently on a visit to Moscow held a meeting with Russian Minister for Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov on the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting under Shanghai Coordination Organization (SCO), and expressed interest in further strengthening cooperation in all fields of mutual interest including trade, energy, defence, and culture.<\/p>\n

The two Ministers expressed satisfaction at the upward trajectory of\u00a0 bilateral\u00a0 relations and expressed interest\u00a0 in further strengthening cooperation in\u00a0 all\u00a0 fields\u00a0 of\u00a0 mutual\u00a0 interest\u00a0 including\u00a0 trade,\u00a0 energy,\u00a0 defense\u00a0 and culture, says a statement received here from Moscow on Thursday.<\/p>\n

They also agreed on making joint efforts to enhance trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n

On the occasion Pervaiz Malik extended\u00a0 invitation\u00a0 to Denis Manturov for a visit\u00a0 to Pakistan at\u00a0 his\u00a0 earliest\u00a0 convenience to which Mr Denis responded positively and accepted the invitation.<\/p>\n

Earlier, the Commerce Minister attend the 16th Meeting of Ministers of SCO member states responsible for foreign economic and foreign trade activity in Moscow from November 13 to 16.<\/p>\n

He was accompanied by MNA Shaista Malik and two officials of the Ministry of Commerce.<\/p>\n

The meeting was attended by Ministers of Commerce and Trade of the eight members of the SCO as well as Observers.<\/p>\n

The Ministers deliberated on the topic of \u201cCurrent situation and prospects for further development of multilateral trade, economic and investment cooperation in the region of SCO\u201d.<\/p>\n

In his Statement made at the meeting, the Minister highlighted that Pakistan will work proactively with fellow SCO-member states to realize the goals and objectives of this forum in keeping with the SCO Charter and the \u2018Shanghai Spirit\u2019 of mutual trust, and shared development.<\/p>\n

He said his country looked forward to advancing the overarching goals of SCO to strengthen political, economic and trade relations between the member states and promoting regional peace, security and stability.<\/p>\n

“Pakistan is a natural SCO partner, ideally located to provide links for regional economic integration within and between SCO member states,” he said adding China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is in step with SCO\u2019s efforts to create trans-continental overland connectivity resulting in stronger regional economic integration.<\/p>\n

Pakistan is partnering in a number of key regional energy and infrastructure initiatives including Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) and CASA-1000.<\/p>\n

He said Pakistan, China, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have agreed to initiate a bus service that would not only enhance trade but also be an important tool to promote people-to-people contacts among the four countries.<\/p>\n

Pervaiz Malik said in\u00a0 line\u00a0 with\u00a0 the government’s vision\u00a0 of\u00a0 shared\u00a0 prosperity through\u00a0 connectivity,\u00a0 Pakistan\u00a0 has\u00a0 undertaken\u00a0 several\u00a0 initiatives which\u00a0 include\u00a0 rebooting\u00a0 of\u00a0 Quadrilateral Traffic\u00a0 in Transit\u00a0 Agreement (QTTA )\u00a0 among\u00a0 China,\u00a0 Kyrgyz\u00a0 Republic,\u00a0 Kazakhstan\u00a0 and Pakistan,\u00a0 which\u00a0 is\u00a0 also\u00a0 being\u00a0 joined\u00a0 by\u00a0 Tajikistan.<\/p>\n

He said the\u00a0 QTTA\u00a0 serves as\u00a0 a channel\u00a0 to\u00a0 regional\u00a0 connectivity\u00a0 and\u00a0 would\u00a0 become\u00a0 even\u00a0 more effective\u00a0 with Pakistan’s\u00a0 membership of\u00a0 SCO.\u00a0 SCO , Pakistan\u2019s\u00a0 strategic\u00a0 aim\u00a0 is\u00a0 to\u00a0 utilize\u00a0 its\u00a0 unique\u00a0 geopolitical\u00a0 position and\u00a0 economic\u00a0 capital\u00a0 to\u00a0 build\u00a0 trade,\u00a0 energy\u00a0 and\u00a0 communications corridors\u00a0 linking\u00a0 South\u00a0 Asia,\u00a0 West\u00a0 Asia, Central\u00a0 Asia and China.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0 Government\u00a0 of\u00a0 Pakistan, he said\u00a0 is\u00a0 working\u00a0 on\u00a0 domestic\u00a0 reforms\u00a0 that would\u00a0 help\u00a0 in\u00a0 promoting\u00a0 regional\u00a0 trade\u00a0 and\u00a0 connectivity.

The initiatives\u00a0 include\u00a0 establishment\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 National\u00a0 Single\u00a0 Window\u00a0 to expedite\u00a0 trade\u00a0 clearance,\u00a0 aggressive\u00a0 implementation\u00a0 of\u00a0 Trade Facilitation\u00a0 Agreement\u00a0 and\u00a0 tariff\u00a0 rationalization\u00a0 to\u00a0 improve\u00a0 further our\u00a0 competitiveness\u00a0 and r reduce the cost\u00a0 of\u00a0 doing\u00a0 business, he added.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0 Minister\u00a0 expressed\u00a0 support\u00a0 for\u00a0 a\u00a0 regional Free Trade Agreement under SCO with\u00a0 a\u00a0 view to\u00a0 opening up partnership\u00a0 opportunities\u00a0 for\u00a0 the\u00a0 whole\u00a0 region.<\/p>\n
