{"id":35030,"date":"2017-12-05T16:00:57","date_gmt":"2017-12-05T11:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=35030"},"modified":"2017-12-05T16:02:18","modified_gmt":"2017-12-05T11:02:18","slug":"nissan-to-begin-field-tests-for-robo-taxis-in-japan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=35030","title":{"rendered":"Nissan to begin field tests for &#8216;robo-taxis&#8217; in Japan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>TOKYO Dec 05 (TNS):<\/strong> Nissan said Tuesday it would begin field tests for driverless &#8220;robot taxis&#8221; early next year as its rivals around the world step up self-driving technologies.<\/p>\n<p>The car giant and Japanese mobile game company DeNA have jointly developed the new driverless vehicle services, dubbed Easy Ride.<\/p>\n<p>They plan to carry out the test with public participation for two weeks in March in Yokohama, southwest of Tokyo, using two electric autonomous vehicles based on its Leaf, a Nissan spokesman said, with an aim of rolling out the service by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Under their plan, customers can use a mobile app to call the robo-vehicle, set the required destination and pay the fare.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-35036\" src=\"https:\/\/tns.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/robo-texi.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tns.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/robo-texi.jpg 700w, https:\/\/tns.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/robo-texi-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tns.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/robo-texi-696x398.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>They also plan to support multiple languages and use a remote monitoring system to ensure passenger safety.<\/p>\n<p>The number of foreign visitors to Japan has hit record highs ahead of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>Auto giants are racing to get autonomous vehicles in gear, and their competition includes Silicon Valley innovators Apple, Google, Tesla, and Uber.<\/p>\n<p>Major carmakers have promised to have self-driving models rolling off assembly lines as early as 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, General Motors said it was aiming to overtake its rivals by launching a large-scale fleet of self-driving taxis by 2019.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TOKYO Dec 05 (TNS): Nissan said Tuesday it would begin field tests for driverless &#8220;robot taxis&#8221; early next year as its rivals around the world step up self-driving technologies.
