{"id":35297,"date":"2017-12-06T22:16:26","date_gmt":"2017-12-06T17:16:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=35297"},"modified":"2017-12-06T22:16:26","modified_gmt":"2017-12-06T17:16:26","slug":"respect-the-status-quo-of-jerusalem-trumps-provocative-announcement-would-further-inflame-world-conflicts-pope-francis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=35297","title":{"rendered":"Respect the status quo of Jerusalem, Trump\u2019s provocative announcement would further inflame world conflicts, Pope Francis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>VATICAN CITY, Dec 06 (TNS): <\/strong>In the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s provocative announcement on Jerusalem, Pope Francis on also expressed his deep concern saying that city\u2019s \u201cstatus quo\u201d must be respected as tension in the Middle East brewing from it would further inflame world conflicts.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is due on Wednesday to recognise Jerusalem as Israel\u2019s capital and set in motion the relocation of the U.S. Embassy to the ancient city, senior U.S. officials said, a decision that upends decades of U.S. policy and risks fuelling further violence in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>In an appeal at the end of his weekly general audience, Francis called for all to honour United Nations resolutions on the city, which is sacred to Jews, Christians and Muslims.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI make a heartfelt appeal so that all commit themselves to respecting the status quo of the city, in conformity with the pertinent resolutions of the United Nations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The pope told thousands of people at his general audience: \u201cI cannot keep quiet about my deep worry about the situation that has been created in the last few days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said he hoped \u201cwisdom and prudence prevail, in order to avoid adding new elements of tension to a global panorama that is already convulsed and marked by so many and cruel conflicts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before making his public comments, Francis met privately with a group of Palestinians involved in inter-religious dialogue with the Vatican.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Holy Land is for us Christians the land par excellence of dialogue between God and mankind,\u201d he said.
