{"id":35350,"date":"2017-12-07T11:24:16","date_gmt":"2017-12-07T06:24:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=35350"},"modified":"2017-12-07T11:24:16","modified_gmt":"2017-12-07T06:24:16","slug":"world-rejects-trumps-move-on-jerusalem-protests-break-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=35350","title":{"rendered":"World rejects Trump&#8217;s move on Jerusalem; protests break out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>LONDON Dec 07 (TNS):<\/strong> Arabs and Muslims across the Middle East condemned the U.S. recognition of Occupied Jerusalem as Israel\u2019s capital as an incendiary move in a volatile region and Palestinians said Washington was abandoning its leading role as a peace mediator.<\/p>\n<p>The European Union and United Nations also voiced alarm at U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s decision to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and its repercussions for any chances of reviving Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking.<\/p>\n<p>Major U.S. allies came out against Trump\u2019s reversal of decades of U.S. and broad international policy on Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<p>France rejected the \u201cunilateral\u201d decision while appealing for calm in the region. Britain said the move would not help peace efforts and Jerusalem should ultimately be shared by Israel and a future Palestinian state. Germany said Jerusalem\u2019s status could only be resolved on the basis of a two-state solution.<\/p>\n<p>Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in a pre-recorded speech, said Jerusalem was the \u201ceternal capital of the State of Palestine\u201d and that Trump\u2019s move was \u201ctantamount to the United States abdicating its role as a peace mediator.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Protests broke out in parts of Jordan\u2019s capital Amman inhabited by Palestinian refugees, with youths chanting anti-American slogans. In the Baqaa refugee camp on Amman\u2019s outskirts, hundreds roamed the streets denouncing Trump and urging Jordan to scrap its 1994 peace treaty with Israel. \u201cDown with America&#8230;America is the mother of terror,\u201d they chanted.<\/p>\n<p>The European Union&#8217;s chief diplomat Federica Mogherini has voiced serious concern over Trump&#8217;s decision to recognise the Jerusalem as Israel&#8217;s capital.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement in Brussels,She said the aspirations of both parties must be fulfilled and a way must be found through negotiations to resolve the status of Jerusalem as the future capital of both states.<\/p>\n<p>Egypt, which forged the first Arab peace deal with Israel in 1979, brushed off Trump\u2019s decision and said it did not change Jerusalem\u2019s disputed legal status.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan said Trump\u2019s action was \u201clegally null\u201d because it consolidated Israel\u2019s occupation of East Jerusalem.<\/p>\n<p>Lebanese President Michel Aoun said Trump\u2019s Jerusalem decision was dangerous and threatened the credibility of the United States as a broker of Middle East peace. He said the move would put back the peace process by decades and threatened regional stability and perhaps global stability.<\/p>\n<p>Qatar\u2019s foreign minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, said Trump\u2019s undertaking was a \u201cdeath sentence for all who seek peace\u201d and called it \u201ca dangerous escalation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Turkey said Trump\u2019s move was \u201cirresponsible\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe call upon the U.S. Administration to reconsider this faulty decision which may result in highly negative outcomes and to avoid uncalculated steps that will harm the multicultural identity and historical status of Jerusalem,\u201d the Turkish foreign ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Iran \u201cseriously condemns\u201d Trump\u2019s move as it violates U.N. resolutions on the Israel-Palestinian conflict, state media reported. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said earlier in the day that the United States was trying to destabilize the region and start a war to protect Israel\u2019s security.<\/p>\n<p>British Prime Minister Theresa May disagreed with Trump\u2019s embrace of Jerusalem as Israel\u2019s capital before a final-status agreement as this was unlikely to help nurture peace in the region, her spokesman said.<\/p>\n<p>Russia says the step will not contribute to efforts to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli crisis.<\/p>\n<p>French President Emmanuel Macron said he did not support Trump\u2019s \u201cunilateral\u201d move.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe status of Jerusalem is a question of international security that concerns the entire international community.
