{"id":35771,"date":"2017-12-08T19:18:29","date_gmt":"2017-12-08T14:18:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=35771"},"modified":"2017-12-08T19:22:13","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T14:22:13","slug":"pakistan-suffered-more-to-terrorism-than-any-other-country-pentagon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=35771","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan suffered more to terrorism than any other country: Pentagon\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, Dec. 8 (TNS):<\/strong> Acknowledging Pakistan\u2019s sacrifices, the Pentagon Chief Spokesperson Dana W White has said that no one has lost more troops and lives to terrorism than Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>She acknowledged Pakistan\u2019s sacrifices, as she spoke on Thursday during a US Department of Defence\u00a0press briefing, along with David L Norquist, Undersecretary of Defence, Comptroller.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe secretary [Jim Mattis] had very fruitful conversations about where they \u2014 we can find common ground. As he said, you know, no one has lost more troops and lives to terrorism than the Pakistanis. So again, this is about broadening our relationship and looking for opportunities,\u201d said White when asked what kind of assurances Mattis received from Pakistan over redoubling its effort in the fight against terrorism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I think there are opportunities. I think his trip showed that. We will give you more, but again it\u2019s a conversation that\u2019s about common ground,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s that common ground\u201d, asked the reporter, Pentagon chief spokesperson continued, \u201cAgain, terrorism. I mean, the threat of terrorism \u2014 I mean everyone has \u2014 Pakistan has an interest in ensuring that terrorism is defeated. They\u2019ve lost thousands of troops, and they\u2019ve lost thousands of innocents as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo it\u2019s in the interests of Pakistan, the US, [and] the region to ensure that we can encourage that Afghanistan has a political reconciliation. So we\u2019ll look for ways to work with Pakistanis to find that common ground and move forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis met Pakistan\u2019s civilian and military leaders on December 4 and urged them to \u201credouble\u201d their efforts to rein in militants accused of using the country as a base to carry out attacks in neighbouring Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>In his discussion with Mattis, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had said the two allies shared objectives. \u201cWe\u2019re committed (to) the war against terror,\u201d he said and reiterated that \u201cNobody wants peace in Afghanistan more than Pakistan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mattis, on a one-day visit to Pakistan, also met army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Lieutenant-General Naveed Mukhtar, the head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Washington, Dec. 8 (TNS): Acknowledging Pakistan\u2019s sacrifices, the Pentagon Chief Spokesperson Dana W White has said that no one has lost more troops and lives to terrorism than Pakistan.
