{"id":43945,"date":"2018-01-13T14:12:10","date_gmt":"2018-01-13T09:12:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=43945"},"modified":"2018-06-27T00:13:01","modified_gmt":"2018-06-26T19:13:01","slug":"macron-wants-french-baguette-to-get-unesco-heritage-status","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=43945","title":{"rendered":"Macron wants French baguette to get UNESCO heritage status"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>PARIS Jan 13 (TNS):<\/strong> President Emmanuel Macron has joined calls by bakers for France&#8217;s traditional baguette to be recognised as one of the world\u00b4s cultural treasures on UNESCO&#8217;s list of &#8220;intangible heritage&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The call came after the art of Naples&#8217; dough-twirling pizza makers was given the nod by the UN cultural body\u00b4s World Heritage Committee in December.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The baguette is envied around the world. We must preserve its excellence and our expertise, and it is for this reason that it should be heritage-listed,&#8221; Macron told a group of master bakers at the Elysee presidential palace in Paris.<\/p>\n<p>Dominique Anract, the head of the national confederation of baking and pastry, earlier said the &#8220;marvellous&#8221; baguette, made of flour, water, salt and yeast, should &#8220;have its rightful place&#8221; in world heritage.<\/p>\n<p>Along with the Eiffel tower, the baguette is one of the main symbols of France, Anract told a local radio station.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The baguette is part of daily life in France and the bread has a special history,&#8221; Macron said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u00b4s a morning, midday and evening tradition for the French.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I know our bakers, they saw the Neapolitans succeed in getting their pizza classified under UNESCO world heritage, and they said why not the baguette &#8212; and they\u00b4re right!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PARIS Jan 13 (TNS): President Emmanuel Macron has joined calls by bakers for France&#8217;s traditional baguette to be recognised as one of the world\u00b4s cultural treasures on UNESCO&#8217;s list of &#8220;intangible heritage&#8221;.
