{"id":44126,"date":"2018-01-14T13:02:59","date_gmt":"2018-01-14T08:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=44126"},"modified":"2018-01-14T13:02:59","modified_gmt":"2018-01-14T08:02:59","slug":"philippines-raised-alert-at-its-restive-mayon-volcano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=44126","title":{"rendered":"Philippines raised alert at its restive Mayon volcano"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Manila, Jan. 14 (TNS): <\/strong>The Philippines raised the alert at its restive Mayon volcano by one notch early on Sunday, citing signs of rising magma that could lead to hazardous eruptions.<\/p>\n<p>Residents were evacuated from two villages near the volcano, a tourist attraction in Albay province because of its near-perfect cone shape, following a \u201cphreatic or steam-driven eruption\u201d on Saturday, and there was a further eruption on Sunday, UK based news agency reported.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s eruption unleashed ash, rocks and sulfuric odor, and was followed by rumbling sounds and a faint glow in the crater, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.<\/p>\n<p>Phivolcs raised the alert to level 2, which means that the current activity is \u201cprobably of magmatic origin, which could lead to more phreatic eruptions or eventually to hazardous magmatic eruptions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A second ash eruption was recorded before noon on Sunday, but Phivolcs said in a subsequent bulletin that it was maintaining alert level 2.<\/p>\n<p>Mayon\u2019s most destructive eruption was in February 1841, when lava flows buried a town and killed 1,200 people.
