{"id":55340,"date":"2018-03-05T11:15:33","date_gmt":"2018-03-05T06:15:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=55340"},"modified":"2018-03-05T11:15:33","modified_gmt":"2018-03-05T06:15:33","slug":"shape-of-water-takes-best-picture-oscar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=55340","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Shape of Water&#8217; takes best picture Oscar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Los Angeles March 5 (TNS):<\/strong> Fantastical romance\u201cThe Shape of Water\u201d won best picture, the film industry\u2019s most prestigious honor, at Sunday\u2019s Oscar ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The Fox Searchlight movie\u2019s Mexican filmmaker, Guillermo del Toro, took home the best director Oscar, dashing the hopes of a rare win by a woman or a black filmmaker.<\/p>\n<p>The movie about a mute cleaning woman who falls in love with a strange river creature had gone into the ceremony with a leading 13 nominations, and won a total of four Academy Awards.<\/p>\n<p>As expected, Britain\u2019s Gary Oldman was named best actor for playing World War Two leader Winston Churchill in Warner Bros.\u2019\u201cDarkest Hour,\u201d while Frances McDormand\u2019s woman in a fury was a popular best actress winner for Fox Searchlight\u2019s dark comedy\u201cThree Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, awards were spread around, recognizing first-timers, LGBT movies and films inspired by other cultures.<\/p>\n<p>Oscars host Jimmy Kimmel tackled Hollywood\u2019s sexual misconduct scandal with jokes on a night heavy with nods to activism on issues ranging from LGBT issues and school shootings to sexism and racism.<\/p>\n<p>Gay romance\u201cCall Me by Your Name\u201d won best adapted screenplay and racial satire\u201cGet Out\u201d won best original screenplay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA Fantastic Woman,\u201d Chile\u2019s groundbreaking story about a transgender woman, played by transgender actress Daniela Vega, won best foreign language film, and Mexican-inspired\u201cCoco\u201d was named best animated feature.<\/p>\n<p>Sam Rockwell, and Allison Janney took home their first Oscars for their supporting roles\u201cThree Billboards\u201d and independent ice-skating movie\u201cI, Tonya,\u201d respectively.
