Islamabad May 1 (TNS): The much-awaited project of the New Islamabad International Airport with a capacity of nine million passengers annually was formally inaugurated today on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has inaugurated the new facility.<\/p>\n

Addressing the ceremony PM said \u201cwe completed all the projects which we have started adding that the airport project is evidence of 5 years performance of Pakistan Muslim league\u2019s government.<\/p>\n

“Aviation is close to my heart personally,” said Abbasi, who is associated with a private airline in the country.<\/p>\n

He added that the new airport will set an example for all the other airports in terms of services provided.<\/p>\n

PM Abbasi appreciated his aviation adviser Mehtab Abbasi and former Civil Aviation Authority chief Air Marshal (retd) Asim Suleman, among other officials, for their role in completing the project.<\/p>\n

The First incoming flight of Pakistan International Airlines from Karachi landed at the new airport at 11 am while the first flight of the national airline will depart for Karachi at 12.30 pm.<\/p>\n

The Complete operation will begin from Thursday, May 3.<\/p>\n

New Islamabad International Airport spans over an area of 4238 acres of land, and it is the first greenfield airport of the country. The airport is equipped with the latest technology and best services for the passengers.<\/p>\n

It has a passenger-friendly terminal, two runways, three taxiways and a cargo apron which can accommodate large and small aircraft.<\/p>\n

A 50-bed trauma centre for the emergency, 9 entry and 9 exit gates and 4 VIP lounges included the facilities provided at the airport. A cargo terminal, air traffic control complex, an oil depot and fire and rescue services are also part of the new facility.<\/p>\n

The airport has a modular design which enables it to handle nine million passengers and 50,000 metric tons of cargo initially.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
