{"id":64231,"date":"2018-05-08T17:25:22","date_gmt":"2018-05-08T12:25:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=64231"},"modified":"2018-05-08T17:25:22","modified_gmt":"2018-05-08T12:25:22","slug":"japanese-furious-over-dessert-in-shoes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=64231","title":{"rendered":"Japanese furious over dessert in shoes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tel Aviv, May 8 (TNS): Japanese are furious as their prime minister was humiliated in Israel where he was served dessert in a shoe.<\/p>\n<p>There aren\u2019t that many cultures where putting a shoe on the dining room table is acceptable behavior, but for the Japanese there\u00a0is clear\u00a0etiquette\u00a0against allowing outdoor shoes inside.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"2\">That might explain the furor following a visit by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his wife, Akie Abe, to Israel last week.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"3\">After a day of high-level meetings on May 2, the Japanese leader was treated to a festive meal at the official residence of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his wife, Sara Netanyahu. It was their second time in Israel, and the visiting couple were served\u00a0a top-notch meal by celebrity Israeli chef Segev Moshe.<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"3\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-64233\" src=\"https:\/\/tns.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/jabe-e1525734430444.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"399\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tns.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/jabe-e1525734430444.png 650w, https:\/\/tns.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/jabe-e1525734430444-300x184.png 300w, https:\/\/tns.world\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/jabe-e1525734430444-356x220.png 356w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 650px) 100vw, 650px\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"4\">But then\u00a0came dessert.\u00a0A selection of delectable chocolate\u00a0pralines\u00a0\u2014 artistically arranged inside a shiny leather shoe.<\/p>\n<p>Israel\u2019s popular daily newspaper\u00a0Yediot Aharonot\u00a0wrote that \u201cJapanese diplomats, Israeli Foreign Ministry officials and high-ranking Israeli diplomats who previously served in Japan were shocked by the idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-elm-loc=\"7\">\u201cThis was an insensitive decision,\u201d the article quoted one unidentified senior Israeli official as saying. \u201cThere is nothing lowlier than a shoe in Japanese culture. Not only do they not wear shoes at home, you also won\u2019t find shoes in their offices. This is disrespect of the first order.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A Japanese diplomat, also not named by the paper, said: \u201cThere\u2019s no culture in the world in which you put shoes on the table. What was the distinguished chef thinking?
