ISLAMABAD, May 15 (TNS): Pakistan has noted with grave concern that despite calls by the international community to comply with UN General Assembly and Security Council resolutions on the two-state solution, US is moving its Embassy to the Holy City of Jerusalem.<\/p>\n
This represents a violation of international law and several United Nations Security Council resolutions, in particular resolutions 476 and 478, the press release stated.<\/p>\n
It may be recalled that both houses of our Parliament have earlier voiced their position on the US decision.<\/p>\n
Government and people of Pakistan stand firmly with the Palestinian people.<\/p>\n
Pakistan also renews its call for the establishment of a viable, independent and the contiguous State of Palestine, on the basis of internationally agreed parameters, the pre-1967 borders, and with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.<\/p>\n
Fresh protests were expected Tuesday a day after Israeli forces killed 59 Palestinians during clashes and protests along the Gaza border against the US embassy opening in Jerusalem in the conflict\u2019s bloodiest day in years.<\/p>\n
Palestinians on Tuesday mark the Nakba, or “catastrophe,” commemorating the more than 700,000 Palestinians who fled or were expelled in the 1948 war surrounding Israel\u2019s creation.<\/p>\n
It comes a day after the United States transferred its Israel embassy from Tel Aviv to the disputed city of Jerusalem in a move that infuriated the Palestinians and was widely condemned.<\/p>\n
