Paris, June 9 (TNS): Spanish tennis ace\u00a0Rafael Nadal\u00a0on Friday outclassed Argentina’s\u00a0Juan Martin del Potro\u00a0to storm into his record 11th final of the\u00a0French Open with a 6-4, 6-1, 6-2 win in the men’s semi-final clash.
\nTop seed Nadal has an impressive record at the\u00a0Roland Garros, winning 85 of his 87 matches played in the annual tournament so far. He will now be looking to win a record 11th grand slam title of the tournament.
\nThe Spaniard will now face seventh seed\u00a0Dominic Thiem\u00a0of\u00a0Croatia\u00a0after he earlier defeated Marco Cecchinato of Italy 7-5, 7-6 (10), 6-1 in their men’s singles semi-final match.
\nThiem is also the first Austrian to reach a grand slam final at\u00a0Roland Garros\u00a0since\u00a0Thomas Muster’s victory in 1995.
\nGoing into the final at\u00a0Roland Garros, Thiem’s prospects of winning his first grand slam will be boosted as he is the only player to beat Nadal on clay twice (in 2017 and 2018).
\nThe World No. 7 Thiem outclassed top seed Nadal earlier in\u00a0Madrid Open\u00a0in May this year and in the\u00a0Italian Open\u00a0last year.<\/p>\n
