KARACHI, June 9 (TNS): Hearing Kala Bagh dam case, the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday said the Supreme Court (SC) will work towards the construction of dams in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will play our role in the construction of dams,\u201d the CJP said while heading a larger bench at SC\u2019s Karachi Registry. The bench was hearing a petition filed by Barrister Zafarullah Khan requesting a referendum for the construction of Kalabagh Dam.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the moment, we are not arguing over the construction of Kalabagh Dam but are looking at how the issue of water scarcity in the country can be resolved,\u201d Justice Nisar remarked.<\/p>\n
Vowing that the apex court will not take a decision which affects any of the petitioners, the chief justice said, \u201cAn alternate solution would be sought in case of conflict between four brothers.\u201d<\/p>\n
The CJP\u2019s comment came in response to Advocate Majid Peerzada\u2019s remarks that the issue of Kalabagh Dam is \u2018disputed\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe people of the four provinces have termed the dam dangerous,\u201d the advocate informed the larger bench.<\/p>\n
However, Justice Nisar told Advocate Peerzada, \u201cDo not feel insecure, we desire to do our best to resolve the issue of water scarcity.\u201d<\/p>\n
He further said, \u201cSupreme Court is the court of the center and we seek to bring everyone together not create differences.\u201d<\/p>\n
