PUTRAJAYA, July 07 (TNS): Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Friday that world-renowned Islamic preacher allegedly wanted in his home country, India, for terror-related activities and hate speech will not be sent back.<\/p>\n
Naik, world\u2019s most popular preacher and mostly followed on the internet, had left India in 2016 after being indicted on flimsy charges by Modi\u2019s Hindu extremist Gov\u2019t fearing a big threat to the mythical religion as millions of Hindus were getting inspired by what Naik was presenting before them on historical and scientific bases.<\/p>\n
He went to Saudi Arabia first where he was warmly welcomed and given the status of state guest besides being awarded citizenship of the kingdom as well. Then subsequently hem moved to largely Muslim Malaysia, where he was granted permanent residency.<\/p>\n
According to Indian media reports, New Delhi asked for him to be extradited in January. The two countries have an extradition treaty.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs long as he is not creating any problem, we will not deport him because he has been given permanent residency status,\u201d Mahathir said at a news conference in administrative capital Putrajaya outside Kuala Lumpur when asked about the reports.<\/p>\n
The reports say India had asked for Naik to be sent back for allegedly inciting youth to engage in terror act\u00adivities via his hate speeches.<\/p>\n
Naik, 52, has described the media reports as \u201ctotally baseless and false\u201d, adding that he has no plans to return to India until he felt \u201csafe from unfair prosecution\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
