United Nations, July 13 (TNS): The United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, today, hinted his support for the UN Human Rights chief\u2019s call for an independent international investigation into the situation in occupied Kashmir, saying the Human Rights High Commissioner\u2019s action represents the \u201cvoice of the UN\u201d on the issue.<\/p>\n
Antonio Guterres told reporters at his press conference in New York when asked whether he supports an independent international probe into the rights situation in Kashmir as recommended by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Zeid Ra\u2019ad Al-Hussein in his report last month. \u201cAs you can imagine, all the action of the Human Rights High Commissioner is an action that represents the voice of the UN in relation to that issue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
On the situation in Kashmir and whether he has made any attempt to bring about the dialogue between India and Pakistan, Guterres said, \u201cIt is clear to me that only political solutions can address political problems.\u201d He said whenever he meets with the leaders of both India and Pakistan, he always offers his good offices to the settlement of the Kashmir dispute.
