{"id":74978,"date":"2018-08-08T17:00:07","date_gmt":"2018-08-08T12:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=74978"},"modified":"2018-08-08T17:00:07","modified_gmt":"2018-08-08T12:00:07","slug":"lhc-judge-excuses-himself-from-hearing-sharif-familys-conviction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=74978","title":{"rendered":"LHC judge excuses himself from hearing Sharif family\u2019s conviction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>LAHORE, Aug. 8 (TNS): In a major development, Lahore High Court\u2019s Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza on Wednesday excused himself from hearing a petition against the Sharif family\u2019s conviction in the Avenfield properties corruption reference.<\/p>\n<p>The judge, who headed a three-member bench\u00a0constituted\u00a0on August 4 to hear senior lawyer A.K. Dogar\u2019s plea seeking annulment of the punishment given to the Sharifs in the Avenfield reference, recused himself citing personal reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Following the breakup of the bench formed to hear the petition, Justice Mirza has referred the matter to LHC chief justice.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Sajid Mehmood Sethi and Justice Mujahid Mustaqeem made up the rest of the bench.<\/p>\n<p>The petition challenged the convictions, delivered under the National Accountability Ordinance 1999, on grounds that the National Accountability Bureau\u2019s (NAB) law was no more valid after the implementation of 18th amendment.<\/p>\n<p>Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif was sentenced under this \u2018dead law\u2019 which is illegal, Dogar argued in the petition, and requested to nullify the sentences of Nawaz, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; LAHORE, Aug. 8 (TNS): In a major development, Lahore High Court\u2019s Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza on Wednesday excused himself from hearing a petition against the Sharif family\u2019s conviction in the Avenfield properties corruption reference.
