Mumbai, Aug. 10 (TNS): Nusli Wadia, the maternal grandson of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, has been allowed by the Bombay High Court to replace his deceased mother Dina as petitioner in a decade-old ownership contest over the star lawyer-politician\u2019s sprawling Mumbai residence, Indian media reported on Friday.<\/p>\n
Dina, Jinnah\u2019s only child, died in 2017.\u00a0The house in question is located in Mumbai\u2019s Malabar Hill area. Wadia approached the BHC after his mother\u2019s passing.<\/p>\n
The industrialist\u2019s counsel argued he should be allowed to substitute Dina as the petitioner in her 2007 writ\u00a0as his mother\u2019s legal heir and representative. Dina last will dated April 2009 detailed her properties in India.<\/p>\n
The central government\u2019s counsel AM Sethna said as Wadia had not obtained probate, he could not substitute as her legal heir and representative.\u201cWe are keeping this issue open to be agitated at the time of hearing of the petition,\u201d a bench\u00a0comprising\u00a0Justices Ranjit More and Anuja Prabhudessai said.<\/p>\n
Earlier in 2017, a\u00a0Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker demanded\u00a0Jinnah House be demolished and a cultural centre be built in its place.\u00a0\u201cJinnah House is a symbol of Partition. The structure should be demolished,\u201d MLA\u00a0Mangal Prabhat Lodha said.<\/p>\n
