New Delhi, Aug. 12 (TNS): A lot of controversies surfaced when India Tennis star Sania Mirza decided to marry Pakistan cricketer\u00a0Shoaib Malik\u00a0way back in 2010.<\/p>\n
The couple didn\u2019t deter though and eight years down the line are living happily together. They are also expecting a baby in the month of October for which Sania has taken a break from the game. However, she recently opened up on her pregnancy and marriage and cleared that she hasn\u2019t married the cricketer to unite both the nations.<\/p>\n
Since their marriage, both of them have continued representing their respective countries in their sport. While Malik has been the vital cog of Pakistan team which won the Champions Trophy in\u00a0England\u00a0last year, his wife has been bringing laurels to India by winning as many as six Grandslam titles in the doubles\u2019 event.<\/p>\n
In an interview to Hindustan Times Brunch, Sania Mirza clarified that she hasn\u2019t exchanged the marriage vows with Shoaib to improve the relations between India and\u00a0Pakistan. But she also recognised the love she has been getting from Pakistan and went on to say that the fans refer her as \u2018Bhabhi\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people have this notion that Shoaib and I got married to unite the two countries. That is not true. Whenever I have been to Pakistan \u2013 and I go once every year to meet my in-laws \u2013 the love that I get there is immense. The whole country calls me \u2018bhabhi\u2019, and they give me so much respect,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Moreover, the Tennis star also shut down the controversy about her baby being Indian or Pakistani saying that she and Shoaib don\u2019t pay heed to such comments. \u201cTags are a part of being a public figure. I play for my country, my family, for myself, and so does my husband. We are aware of the responsibilities we carry, but we do not take these tags seriously. They may make for a good headline, but don\u2019t mean anything to us at home,\u201d Sania added.<\/p>\n
