ISLAMABAD, Aug. 29 (TNS):\u00a0The special court conducting the treason trial of former president Pervez Musharraf was informed by the interior secretary on Wednesday that the\u00a0International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) refused to issue a red notice for the former military ruler.<\/p>\n
Elaborating further on Interpol\u2019s refusal, the interior secretary added that the law-enforcing organisation stated that it does not issue red notices in political cases.<\/p>\n
The three-judge bench, headed by Justice Yawar Ali and comprising Justice Nazar Akbar and Justice Tahira Safdar also requested a copy of the letter sent to Interpol from the interior ministry.<\/p>\n
\u201cA red\u00a0notice is a request to locate and provisionally arrest an individual pending extradition. It is issued by the [Interpol\u2019s] General Secretariat at the request of a member country or an international tribunal based on a valid national arrest warrant. It is not an international arrest warrant,\u201d reads the organisation\u2019s website.<\/p>\n
The special court also asked the federal government to decide how the treason case against\u00a0Musharraf could be concluded in his absence and adjourned hearing the case till Septem 10.<\/p>\n
