{"id":80923,"date":"2018-12-18T20:32:41","date_gmt":"2018-12-18T15:32:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=80923"},"modified":"2022-02-17T15:06:57","modified_gmt":"2022-02-17T10:06:57","slug":"pakistans-vote-inaccurately-recorded-in-favour-of-resolution-seeking-moratorium-on-executions-fo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=80923","title":{"rendered":"Pakistan&#8217;s vote &#8216;inaccurately recorded&#8217; in favour of resolution seeking moratorium on executions: FO"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Islamabad, Dec. 18 (TNS): Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal on Tuesday said reports stating that Pakistan had voted in favour of a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for a moratorium on executions a day earlier were mistaken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Pakistan, in accordance with its consistent policy, voted against the General Assembly resolution calling for a moratorium on execution, with a view to abolishing the death penalty,&#8221; Dr Faisal said in a tweet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He clarified that Pakistan&#8217;s vote was &#8220;inaccurately recorded&#8221; in favour of the resolution &#8220;due to technical issues&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Permanent Mission of Pakistan has taken up this matter with the UN Secretariat to put the record straight.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Amnesty International, which opposes the use of death penalty, had\u00a0reported on Monday\u00a0that Pakistan was among the four UN members which changed their vote to support the resolution.
