ISLAMABAD, Aug 16 (TNS): The 23rd death anniversary of legendary \u2018Qawwali\u2019 maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was being observed here on
\nSunday across the country.<\/p>\n
He was popularly regarded as \u201cShahenshah-e-Qawwali\u201d, meaning \u201cThe King of Qawwali\u201d, a private news channel; reported.<\/p>\n
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was born in Faisalabad on October, 13, 1948, and was considered one of the trend-setters and pioneers of fusion music in Pakistan.
\nHailing from a Patiala gharana, Khan carried forward his family\u2019s 600-year-old Qawwali tradition and introduced it to international audiences.<\/p>\n
According to the Guinness Book of World Records\u201a Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan holds the world record for the largest recorded output by a Qawwali artist.<\/p>\n
The government of Pakistan bestowed Pride of Performance on the legendary singer in 1987 for his contribution to Pakistani music. He was also honored with the prestigious UNESCO Music Prize. The music maestro released around 25 Qawwali albums.<\/p>\n
His massive hit `Dam Mast Qalandar\u2019 became household anthem. His Hamd \u201cWohi Khuda Hai\u201d and the national song \u201cMera Paigham Pakistan\u201d are still popular among the music lovers.<\/p>\n
