{"id":95546,"date":"2020-12-31T14:09:45","date_gmt":"2020-12-31T09:09:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=95546"},"modified":"2020-12-31T14:09:45","modified_gmt":"2020-12-31T09:09:45","slug":"urdu-other-non-un-languages-also-used-for-world-body-chiefs-new-year-message","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tns.world\/?p=95546","title":{"rendered":"Urdu, other non-UN languages also used for world body chief\u2019s New Year message"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UNITED NATIONS, Dec 31 (TNS): For the first time, the United Nations issued Secretary-General Antonio Guterres\u2019 New Year message in Urdu, the national language of Pakistan, among other non-UN languages, in an effort to reach the widest possible audiences.<\/p>\n<p>Hitherto the UN chief\u2019s new year message was released only in the six official UN languages \u2014 English, French, Chinese, Spanish, Russian and Arabic.<\/p>\n<p>Besides Urdu, a widely spoken language, the UN this year also picked Portuguese, Hindi and Kiswahili, a major African language, for the annual message.<\/p>\n<p>In this regard, it is learnt that officials of the United Nations and the Pakistan Mission to the UN were in contact.<\/p>\n<p>In his New Year message, released earlier, the UN secretary-general had called for 2021 to be a \u201cyear of healing\u201d, while stressing the need for unity and solidarity when addressing the coronavirus pandemic and climate change crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoth climate change and the Covid-19 pandemic are crises that can only be addressed by everyone together \u2013 as part of a transition to an inclusive and sustainable future,\u201d Guterres had said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNITED NATIONS, Dec 31 (TNS): For the first time, the United Nations issued Secretary-General Antonio Guterres\u2019 New Year message in Urdu, the national language of Pakistan, among other non-UN languages, in an effort to reach the widest possible audiences.
