India undermined spirit of SAARC: says PM Nawaz

Male, July 25 (TNS): Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif says India has harmed South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and undermined the spirit of the regional body.

Addressing a joint news conference along with Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in Male on Tuesday, the Prime Minister said both Pakistan and Maldives share common views to make SAARC a vibrant organization for regional development.

Nawaz Sharif said he also exchanged views with the Maldivian President over ongoing atrocities by Indian forces in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The Prime Minister said Islamabad is ready to extend all possible cooperation to Male for welfare and development of its masses as boths nations enjoy brotherly ties.

Nawaz Sharif said the Pakistan and Maldives have decided to improve collaboration in diverse sectors, including business, education, defence, tourism, and people to people contacts as numerous agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed between two governments for the purpose.

He further said that 4 joint working committees have been formed to supervise implementation of the MoUs signed between two countries.

Prime Minister Sharif also informed the media that two countries have established Joint Business Council and Joint Working to boost trade and economic activities.

On his arrival, a formal welcoming ceremony in honor of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was held at Presidential palace in Male, Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom received  and welcomed him.

Maldivian President introduced the cabinet members and others officials to the Prime Minister Sharif.

The Prime Minister will be Chief Guest at the celebrations of 52nd Independence Day of Maldives being celebrated on Wednesday.

The MoUs and agreement signed between two countries included cooperation in several areas like business, education, tourism, climate change, foreign and Civil services and development of human resources.
