Islamabad June 13 (TNS): Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said on Tuesday that instead of approaching relevant forums, people knock the door of the Supreme Court for the resolution of every petty issue.
The chief justice gave these remarks while taking up a petition of Jamaat-e-Islam against the overbilling and unannounced load-shedding of K-Electric. When the chief justice asked the JI counsel if he had approached the relevant regulator (PEPRA) for resolution of the issue, the counsel alleged that the regulator’s officials in collusion with the K-Electric officials were committing corruption of billions of rupees by sending inflated bills to consumers.
He said that the issue has been brought to the notice of the authorities but to no avail.
He said that the K-Electric laid off 4,000 employees while 1,500 people have died related to electricity mishaps. He said that the k-Electric management did not abide by the promises it had made during the privatisation.
The chief justice while issuing notices to K-Electric and others observed that the court will not disappoint anyone and will ensure justice after evaluating the replies of the authorities. The federal public prosecutor opposed the petition arguing the Sindh High Court has already disposed of the case. The court after issuing notices adjourned the hearing sine die.
