LAHORE, Dec 30 (TNS): Opposition leader in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Friday bemoaned visits of the PML-N leaders to Saudi Arabia, as he said; the policy makers should make their own decisions.
Talking to media, he said Pakistan is a nuclear power and the country has its own constitution. “It’s disappointing to see leaders of the ruling party paying visits to the Kingdom,” he said.
Shah said the nation is well aware of their intentions of visits to the Kingdom.
Referring to Saudi Arabia’s earlier role in striking a National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) deal, the opposition leader said Nawaz Sharif has been disqualified by judiciary this time under corruption charges. “The current situation for an NRO is much different than the previous situation,” he noted.
Coming on General Elections 2018, he said the government should complete its tenure to uphold democratic norms.
Earlier on Dec 27, former President and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari had said that his party would strongly oppose an NRO like deal to safeguard a political figure, while referring to Nawaz Sharif.
Addressing a mammoth crowd at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh on 10th death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto, the former president deplored the dual standards of justice in the country as he said: “We spent 12 years in jail and you [Nawaz Sharif] attained freedom after spending 12 days in the jail.”
Referring directly to the ruling party, Zardari then said they had issues with the PPP for long time. “This time we will not support you, as time and again you have stabbed us in the back,” he asserted.
