Islamabad June 5 (TNS): After Hussain Nawaz’s picture sitting on a chair ahead of his appearance before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) went viral, the Ministry of Interior on Monday vehemently denied that it had released the picture.
The interior ministry’s statement came after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf spokesman Fawad claimed that Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and the Intelligence Bureau (IB) released the picture to make the JIT proceedings controversial, and also to garner public sympathy for Hussain Nawaz, who is being grilled by the probe team over the money trail of the Sharif family that is possessing foreign holdings.
Fawad had alleged that the security of the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA), where the JIT is headquartered, was being managed by the interior ministry and the IB and they were responsible for releasing the picture.
A spokesperson for the interior ministry said that it was only responsible for the external security of the FJA building and the Islamabad police — which fall under the ministry — were responsible to provide security outside the FJA. The spokesperson clarified that neither the police nor the ministry has anything to do with the internal security of the Academy.
“Commenting on such sensitive issues, to play politics, is uncalled for,” the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, the IB also denied that it was involved behind releasing the picture.
