LAHORE July 26 (TNS): Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, the Interior minister said on Tuesday: “I had made it clear to the aides of former dictator Pervez Musharraf that I would never deceive leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif.”
Nisar’s reaction came a day after Musharraf spoke at a private TV channel.
He denied having been offered premiership during the dictator’s tenure. He said that he had made it clear to General Mehmood that he was not going to deceive Nawaz Sharif and added that he was paid a visit by General Mehmood in 1999 after Musharraf had toppled Nawaz Sharif’s government. “Before he could begin, I clarified to him that I would not deceive Nawaz Sharif, I would not give a statement in favor of the dictator and I would not join any other political group.”
Nisar said that the army official asked him if he meant that he would not deceive the toppled premier who had deceived him. However, I responded: “I would not be able to live with my conscience if I deceive my leader.”
Earlier reports said the finance minister Ishaq Dar had a prolonged sitting with the federal minister at the Punjab House in the federal capital and assured him that his concerns would be addressed by the top leadership at the earliest.
