Pakistan world’s largest host of refugees: UNHCR report

ISLAMABAD. 20 Aug (TNS): United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, also known as the UN Refugee Agency has disclosed that Pakistan is the world’s largest country hosting refugees.

In its report UNHCR has said that nearly all the 1.45 million refugees in the country belong to Afghanistan.

Pakistan had generously hosted the world’s largest refugee population for three decades, and it was essential to mobilise more support from the international community, the report recommended.

At the same time, voluntary repatriation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan to their home country had also been the largest in the world, said the report.

Since March 2002, UNHCR has facilitated the return of approximately 4.1mn registered Afghans from Pakistan, it added.
