Parliamentary panel recommends to set up shipyard at Gawadar


Islamabad, Jul 26 (TNS): Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production recommended to the government to accelerate construction of shipyard at Gawadar.

A meeting of the Senate body held here at Old Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS) Hall with Senator Lt. General (R) Abdul Qayyum in the chair here on Wednesday.

The meeting reviewed export details of closed financial year, covering Heavy Industries Taxila, Pakistan Aeronautical Complex in Kamra and Pakistan Ordnance Factory.

The committee also looked over domestic commercial sales of Pakistan Ordnance Factory, Heavy Industries Taxila, National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation and Karachi Shipyard.

The meeting was attended by top officials and the government representatives including Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain, Senators – Mian Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh, Nuzhat Sadiq, Rubina Khalid, Sehar Kamran, Brig (r) John Kenneth Williams.

Officials of Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Limited briefed the lawmakers and officials about planned shipyard at Gawadar port in Balochistan.
