Islamabad, Dec. 06 (TNS): President Arif Alvi has stressed for provision of equal education opportunities to all children to take forward the country on the path of development.
Addressing a function organized by Pakistan Bait ul Maal in Islamabad on Thursday in connection with Universal Children’s Day, he noted only those nations make progress which invest in the uplift of their children. He was confident that the day is not far away when our children will also have access to equal opportunities to excel in their life.
Quoting verses from Holy Quran and Hadith, the President said it is collective responsibility of both the government and the society to take care of orphans and the destitute. He said the society cannot act as a silent spectator rather it needs to join efforts to eradicating domestic child labor and child abuse.
He said necessary awareness needs to be created amongst the children and the parents to deal with the menace of child abuse.
On Thalassemia, the President said this could be prevented by ensuring that the couple getting married goes for medical tests before their wedding. A clause in this regard may be inserted in Nikkah Nama.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Pakistan Baitul Maal Aoun Abbas said they plan to expand the network of Sweet Homes to accommodate more number of orphans. He said twenty four new sweet homes will be established by March next year in small cities. He said we will also provide funding to 2250 deserving students to get higher education. He said we also plan to establish six new Thalassemia centers in three months time.
The Chairman Pakistan Baitul Maal said that four hundred and fifty million rupees will be spent on special persons in five years.
Earlier the president also visited a Thalassemia center at F-9 Park. On the occasion, the children of Sweet Homes also presented tableaus.
