Islamabad June 07 (TNS): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have demanded from the Supreme Court that it sought resignation from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to ensure a transparent and fair investigation into the Panama Papers case.
Talking to the media here on Wednesday, PTI leaders Jehangir Tareen, Shafqat Mehmood, Fawad Chaudhry and others said that the ruling party and the Sharif family were putting roadblocks in the investigation into the money trail case.
“Unless the prime minister steps down, a fair investigation into the Panama Papers case is not possible. Roadblocks and hurdles will drag the investigation. The Sharif family always chose umpires of their own choice in the past. Since they are facing a real investigation and accountability, they have started threatening investigators and judges,” Tareen said. “The Supreme Court must direct Nawaz Sharif to step down as he is influencing the JIT probe through the good office of the prime minister.
“Recently, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has threatened judges claiming that they (judges) have aimed their guns at the Sharif family. The Supreme Court must take note of the threats,” Shafqat Mehmood said.
“The Sharif family is facing a real accountability for the first time in the country’s history. Talal Chaudhry and Danyal Aziz are threatening journalists and investigators. We will be at the beck and call of the institutions unless the accountability is taken to the logical conclusion,” Fawad Chaudhry said adding Shahbaz Sharif was the producer and director of the whole drama behind the resignation of their Senator Nehal Hashmi, who withdrew his resignation after he was asked by the younger Sharif to do so.
