SC suspends PU acting vice-chancellor

Islamabad April 21 (TNS): The Supreme Court on Saturday suspended Acting Vice-Chancellor of Punjab University Dr Muhammad Zakria for handing over 80 kanal of university land to the Punjab government illegally for the construction of a grid station.

Hearing a case, the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar suspended Dr Zakria after it was brought to the notice of the top court that the syndicate members headed by the acting vice-chancellor handed over 80 kanal to the provincial government.

The apex court questioned that why no permanent vice-chancellor has not been appointed for more than two and half years.

“It’s palpable that the government is not appointing a permanent VC to gain legal and illegal benefits,” the court observed, ordering to appoint the senior most professor as the vice-chancellor of the university.
