LAHORE: July 17 (TNS): Lahore High Court on Monday accepted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s petition seeking disqualification of the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Babar Awan, who recently joined the PTI, filed a reference on behalf of party chairman Imran Khan on Saturday as earlier he had vowed to take the chief minister to court. The LHC will take up the petition on Tuesday (tomorrow).
Addressing the media Babar Awan said that the reference is not based on any rumors or assumptions, but the Joint Investigation Team report in which Shahbaz Sharif’s name is mentioned twice. Joining in conversation, PTI leader Naeem-ul-Haque said the premier has violated the constitution and the public trust. Reiterating call for PM’s resignation, he said the top court’s decision in the case will set a precedent.
