Sheikh Rasheed’s address marred by row between two lawyers’ groups

Lahore July 4 (TNS): Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed’s address to the Lahore Bar Association (LBA) in Lahore was marred by a row between two lawyers’ groups soon after the one group started anti-Nawaz slogans while responding to the fiery speech of the government’s arch rival.

Rasheed turned his guns at Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, terming him corrupt and accusing him making transfer and postings on favouritism in total disregard for merit.

“Nawaz Sharif has ruined the state institutions by appointing his favourites on key posts. Sharif makes appointments, transfer and postings on favouritism and not on merit. He has appointed his henchmen in key positions,” Rasheed said amidst “go Nawaz go slogans.

Lawyers belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Forum stood up from their seats at the fag end of his speech when Rasheed claimed that the ruling party has distributed batons and clubs among party workers ahead the prime minister’s daughter Maryam Nawaz’s appearance before the Joint Investigation Team probing the Sharif family over their alleged involvement in money-laundering.

As Maryam Nawaz is appearing before the JIT tomorrow, the PML-N supporters are already holding sticks in their hands,” Rasheed claimed.

Rasheed also said that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has submitted fake documents to the IMF and the World Bank regarding the financial position of the country.

As he was going to wrap up his speech, the pro-Nawaz lawyers started raising slogans in favour of PM Sharif. At one point, the two groups of lawyers came face to face and a full brawl circumvented after some senior lawyers intervened and separated the fury lawyers.

Rasheed was escorted out of the hall by the lawyers as the PML-N lawyers unsuccessfully leapt to grab him by the collar.
