Threatening speech case: ATC exempts Nihal Hashmi from appearance

KARACHI, Aug 24 (TNS): An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday granted exemption to Senator Nihal Hashmi from appearance pertaining to threats to Panama JIT members and judiciary in a speech in May this year.

During the course of hearing, Hashmi’s counsel Advocate Khalid Mumtaz submitted an application seeking exemption for his client from personal appearance.

The judge after hearing arguments of the lawyer approved the plea for exemption. Hashmi is on bail in the case granted by the same court. The court adjourned further hearing till September 7.

Hashmi has been booked for spreading terror by extending threats to members of the judiciary and other public servants probing or related to the investigation of the Panama Leaks case filed against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family.
