YDA announces strike

PESHAWAR, June 14 (TNS): The Young Doctors Association (YDA) announced to hold a complete strike after police baton-charged the protesting doctors in Peshawar on Wednesday.

The premises of Hayatabad Medical Complex turned into a battlefield after the young doctors, who were trying to lock the outpatient’s department against an amendment to the Medical Teaching Institutes (MTI) Act and non-payment of allowances, clashed with the police.

The police stopped the young doctors from storming the hospital as section 144 has been imposed on the hospital premises.

Patients have been suffering immensely due to the ongoing protest of doctors.

Dozens of doctors sustained injuries in the scuffle while police took five of them into custody accusing them of fanning violence.

The protesters said that the provincial government would not be allowed to amend the MTI Act at any cost.

Meanwhile, Cantt SP Imran Malik said that the detained doctors will be produced before a court later in the day.
