JI calls off sit-in in Karachi after successful talks with Sindh Govt

Islamabad: Jan 28, 2022 (TNS): Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has called off sit-in in Karachi after successful talks with the Sindh government over a controversial local government bill passed by the provincial assembly.

The announcement to end the 29-day long sit-in was made by Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman after a successful talk with Sindh government representative Nasir Hussain Shah on Friday.

Talking to the media, Provincial Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said that PPP and Jamaat-e-Islami have agreed to empower the mayor of Karachi. The two sides also agreed on the establishment of the Provincial Finance Commission.

The mayor and town chairmen will be members of the commission.

The two sides also reached an agreement, according to which the mayor will head the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board while educational institutions and hospitals will be handed over to the Local Bodies.
