DIG Operations Shehzad Nadeem Bukhari on Tuesday issued directives to transfer cases related to journalists to CIA.

The cases related to the journalists would be investigated under the supervision of SP CIA on priority basis.

Yesterday, a delegation of Islamabad Crime and Court Reporters and Producers headed by Saghir Chaudhry had a special meeting with DIG Operations Shahzad Nadeem Bukhari in which the problems faced by the journalists were discussed.

DIG Operations was informed that mobile snatching has increased in the twin cities and many journalists fell victim to this. Incidents of cash extortion and theft of vehicles and motorcycles had also taken place which were not being investigated on a priority basis. Moreover, no culprit has been arrested yet and no recovery was made.

Aizaz Syed and Umar Cheema, senior journalists were robbed at gunpoint at Blue Area, islamabad.

Apart from this, mobile phones and cash were snatched from Rana Kausar Ali at I-Ten area near police station, Sabzi Mandi branch.

Similarly, mobile phone and cash were taken away from the son of Rana Kausar from Karachi Police Station area.

The car of PTV reporter Imran Mansab from Shamsabad was stolen outside his house.

Mobile phone and cash were snatched from online reporter Raja Basharat at gun point.

While senior journalist Zia Gilani’s mobile phone worth 95 thousand was taken away at Faizabad.

DIG Shehzad Bukhari was told that during the protest in Bhara Kahu in recent days, journalists were subjected to torture. It is a matter of concern that a high-level inquiry is necessary and if the concerned officials are found guilty, action should be taken against them as per the law.

DIG Shahzad Bukhari said that the police has been strictly prohibited to stop any citizen’s vehicle on the bridge and harass them. For this, strict instructions have been issued to the SHOs of all the police stations. A few days ago, a departmental inquiry was conducted by suspending the SHOs of 5 police stations due to poor performance.
