Karachi (TNS) : Meeting on improving women and child healthcare

Civil Hospital Karachi: Minister of Health, Social Welfare and Public Health Engineering, Government of Sindh, Dr. Saad Khalid Riaz, met with IRD’s Maternal and Child Health Team led by a renowned expert in public health Dr. Subhash Chandir who is working as Director Maternal and Child Health Program at IRD, Global and member of WHO’s Global Digital Health Forum and an associate faculty at  Johns Hopkin University, USA. The aim of the meeting was to discuss IRD’s innovative contributions to strengthening health outcomes for women and children in Sindh.

The Health Minister appreciated IRD’s support of the Sindh Electronic Immunization Registry (SEIR) aka Zindagi Mehfooz EIR, which constitutes the biggest EIR in a developing country in improving immunization outcomes across the province. To date, the registry has enrolled over. 9.4 million children and 3.5 million women, and recorded more than 115 million immunization records.

He also assured support in incorporating SEIR’s operational cost in the provincial regular budget. He also directed the immediate launch of targeted and focused interventions in High-Risk Union Councils including Machar Colony. Scale-up of the Pregnant Women and Birth Registry feature of SEIR across private, public and community-level birthing facilities in Sindh was highly recommended to reach every woman and child with healthcare services.

IRD also extended their support to provide a digital platform for their upcoming implementation of the Well Women Clinic model across all facilities in the province.
