Islamabad : Deputy Commissioner Murree Agha Zaheer Abbas Shirazi presided over a meeting with the officers of Agriculture Department and farmers of Murree district. Agricultural Officers DDA/ADA (EXT), Agricultural Officers (EXT) and (TECHS), Officers of Crop Reporting Service, Wheat Research Sub Station Murree and farmers of both Tehsils Murree and Kotli Sattian participated in the meeting. DDA/ADA Murree and AO Murree detailed all the agricultural activities, especially wheat FTPs, sowing, crop position, harvesting and taking into account last year’s data. Production estimates were reported. The area under wheat cultivation in 2023-24 is 17,408 acres, which is 2.3% higher than last year (17,000 acres). By creating awareness among the farming community, field extension and joint efforts of university graduates, we again managed to improve the area under wheat cultivation. Crop Reporting Services officials confirmed this data. The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the field staff of the Agriculture Department. All extension activities of field staff, opportunities and challenges for farmers were discussed in detail. The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the work and survey completed by the field staff under the supervision of Director Agriculture (EXT) Rawalpindi Division Rawalpindi to promote agriculture in Murree district. Progressive farmers shared their collective efforts and cooperative farming as practiced in Pothwar Murree and Kotli Sattian. The Deputy Commissioner asked all the concerned departments to make efforts especially for control of pigs, best use of fruits of rocky land especially wild apricots, apples etc.
