BEIJING, Saturday, 28 December 2024 (TNS): China has called on the global community to respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independent choices of Middle Eastern nations while acknowledging their historical and cultural traditions.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made these remarks during talks with his Iranian counterpart, Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, in Beijing on Saturday. Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, emphasized that the Middle East belongs to its people and should not serve as a battleground for major-power rivalries or geopolitical competitions initiated by external actors.

“For the region to emerge from chaos and achieve stability, an immediate ceasefire and an end to violence are critical,” Wang said, underlining the need for alleviating the ongoing humanitarian crisis, adhering to political resolutions, and resuming dialogue and negotiations.

Wang urged all parties to contribute constructively to peace and stability in the Middle East rather than imposing external will, resorting to sanctions, or provoking confrontation and conflict. “Middle Eastern countries deserve respect for their independent development paths and efforts to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he added.

As a long-standing partner of the Middle East, China reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the region in resolving disputes through dialogue and consultation, opposing external interference, and fostering a peaceful environment for development.

The meeting reflects China’s proactive stance in advocating for peace and stability in one of the world’s most volatile regions.
