Islamabad (TNS):Senior journalist and analyst Rana Imran Latif has survived a second assassination attempt within a month, raising serious concerns about the deteriorating safety of journalists in the federal capital. Earlier, on 20th July 2025, he was targeted by gunfire in the high-security F-7 Markaz area. The case was registered as FIR No. 637/25 at Kohsar Police Station.
Despite the clear threat to his life, influential suspects involved in the attack remain at large, and law enforcement agencies have shown unusual delay in apprehending them. This inaction has been strongly condemned by journalist unions, media worker organizations, and human rights groups across the country.
In a joint statement, these organizations called on the Prime Minister, Field Marshal, Federal Interior Minister, and the Inspector General of Islamabad Police to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators involved.
On the occasion, Rana Imran Latif stated:
“The state has utterly failed to protect journalists. If this situation persists, the very existence of independent journalism will be at stake.”
He further demanded:
Immediate and effective nationwide security measures for journalists,An end to the filing of baseless
cases against media workers,And resistance against any attempt to suppress freedom of expression.Journalist organizations have warned that if justice is not served and the culprits are not arrested, a protest march will be launched from the National Press Club Islamabad to the Parliament House and the Supreme Court.
Journalists will stage a sit-in on Shahrah-e-Jamhuriyat (Democracy Avenue), boycott parliamentary coverage, and launch a joint nationwide protest on all forums.
