Rahim Yar Khan (TNS)(Bureau Chief) — District Police Officer (DPO) Rahim Yar Khan, Irfan Ali Samo, has taken exemplary measures to maintain law and order in the district since his appointment, earning widespread public appreciation.

Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab’s last district bordering Sindh, Balochistan, and India, has long been at the center of an unending battle against the notorious Kacha gangs. These criminal groups are involved in serious crimes such as kidnapping for ransom, armed assaults, ambushes on police, and deceiving citizens to take them hostage. In recent clashes, five police personnel have been martyred, compared to eleven last year.

Under DPO Irfan Ali Samo’s leadership, incidents of kidnapping for ransom have significantly decreased, and the gangs are now being forced into direct confrontation with the police. However, a shortage of modern weapons, armored personnel carriers (APCs), bulletproof jackets, helmets, and other tactical equipment remains a major challenge to sustaining this progress.

Security experts and local authorities emphasize that the permanent elimination of Kacha gangs requires immediate federal government intervention and the allocation of special funds. The district’s strategic location enables criminals to quickly cross provincial borders, regroup, and return, making operations even more complex.

DPO Irfan Ali Samo’s open-door policy has also been widely appreciated by the public. Citizens are free to present their issues directly to him and receive prompt relief, which is strengthening public trust in the police.

Experts believe that maintaining constant pressure and providing necessary resources at this critical juncture is the only way to permanently rid Rahim Yar Khan of the threat posed by the Kacha gangs.
