islamabad (TNS) Khanewal police on Sunday arrested one of the district’s most notorious criminals, identified as Pappu Baloch, who was not only running a large-scale drug network but was also allegedly involved in multiple incidents of rape and contract killings.

The high-profile arrest was carried out by SHO Thana Sadar, Shaban Khalid Goraya, along with his team members Ahmed and Khurram, after what officials described as a “highly risky and meticulously planned operation.” Police sources told Dawn that the suspect had developed a reputation as a symbol of fear in the area, using armed groups and intimidation tactics to maintain his influence.

According to police records, Baloch was wanted in several heinous cases, including narcotics trafficking, sexual assault, extortion, and targeted murders carried out for hire. “He had become untouchable for years, operating under a web of fear and violence,” said one senior officer.

Despite the suspect’s resistance, police managed to overpower him without any loss of life. The arrest has sparked visible relief among locals, with residents telling Dawn that “the community finally feels free of his terror.” Women and youth in particular expressed gratitude to the police, calling the operation “a turning point for public safety in Khanewal.”

Senior police officials, including the IG Punjab, Additional IG Punjab, RPO Multan, and DPO Khanewal, praised SHO Goraya and his team for their bravery and professionalism. “The arrest of Pappu Baloch is a clear message to all criminal elements that law enforcement will not hesitate to eliminate drugs, contract killings, and sexual violence from society,” a spokesperson for Punjab Police said.

The suspect is now under interrogation, and further investigations are underway to dismantle his alleged network of accomplices.
