ISLAMABAD (TNS) : The Third Trilateral Speakers’ Meeting of the Parliaments of Pakistan, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan, hosted by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, concluded in Islamabad with the unanimous adoption of the “Islamabad Declaration.”

The declaration underscored that global and regional peace and stability require the peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute between Pakistan and India in accordance with the relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions. It also emphasized that any attempt to alter the demographic composition of Jammu & Kashmir would exacerbate regional tensions and further destabilize peace efforts.

The Speakers’ Meeting reaffirmed the shared bonds of history, culture, and values among the three brotherly nations and expressed a strong desire to deepen cooperation in diverse areas including political, strategic, trade, economic, defense, peace and security, science and technology, climate change, environment, and cultural exchange.

The declaration also recognized terrorism as a global menace, including the use of terrorist groups as proxies, and stressed the need for collective and comprehensive strategies to address such challenges. The three sides reaffirmed adherence to international law and multilateral cooperation, especially within frameworks such as the United Nations (UN), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), and D-8, as well as parliamentary platforms like IPU, PUIC, APA, and PAECO.

On climate change, the declaration urged joint efforts to address its adverse impacts, welcomed the upcoming COP29 in Baku as a milestone for strengthened global climate action, and highlighted the need for adequate climate finance for developing countries. It called for enhanced cooperation in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the promotion of green energy and environmental sustainability.

The Islamabad Declaration also underscored the importance of the role of women and youth in decision-making and advocated for the promotion of youth exchange programs, forums, and public diplomacy initiatives.
Reiterating their unwavering support for the Palestinian people, the three Speakers stressed that any sustainable solution to the crisis must ensure an end to Israeli aggression, delivery of humanitarian aid, and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in line with UN resolutions. The participants reaffirmed their commitment to work collectively within the Group of Parliaments in Support of Palestine, established in İstanbul in April 2025.

The meeting also expressed solidarity with Azerbaijan over challenges posed by landmines and remnants of war in its liberated territories, and reaffirmed support for its efforts to rehabilitate and rebuild those areas and ensure the safe return of internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Further, the Speakers agreed to strengthen trilateral cooperation in defense and connectivity projects, including the East-West and North-South Corridors, and to promote inter-parliamentary exchanges among standing committees, friendship groups, and parliamentary staff.

The conference concluded with the decision to convene the next Trilateral Speakers’ Meeting in Azerbaijan in 2026 on mutually agreed dates.

The Speakers of Türkiye and Azerbaijan expressed their deep gratitude to Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and the National Assembly of Pakistan for their warm hospitality, excellent arrangements, and successful organization of the Third Trilateral Speakers’ Meeting in Islamabad.
