Karachi (TNS) Illegal and Unlawful Appointments at NICVD: Serious Questions Over Role of Executive Director

16

Karachi (TNS) Karachi Serious concerns have emerged regarding illegal and unlawful appointments of staff in Grades 17 to 19 at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD).

According to DG audit report information, these appointments were made in blatant violation of rules, regulations, and merit-based procedures.

Despite the seriousness of the matter, no inquiry or investigation has been initiated by the Prof Tahir Saghir Executive Director (ED), NICVD.

Alarmingly, instead of taking corrective action, the Executive Director is allegedly supporting and facilitating these illegal appointments, raising grave concerns about transparency, governance, and accountability within the institution.
Health sector observers state that such practices not only undermine merit but also demoralize deserving candidates and damage public trust in a premier public healthcare institution.

The silence and inaction of the NICVD administration have further intensified concerns among stakeholders and the general public.

There is an urgent demand from civil society and concerned circles that:
A high-level and independent inquiry committee be constituted immediately.
All illegal and unlawful appointments in Grades 17 to 19 be thoroughly reviewed.
Strict legal action be taken against those found responsible.

The role of the Executive Director, NICVD, be examined transparently.
Experts warn that failure to take timely action may lead to further deterioration of institutional integrity and governance standards in the public healthcare sector.
