Islamabad – 12th February 12, 2026 (TNS): The Royal Thai Armed Forces Day was marked with a reception in Islamabad, where Thai Defence Attaché Colonel Nikhom Chumpoo highlighted the strong and growing defence cooperation between Thailand and Pakistan.

Vice Admiral Syed Ahmed Salman, Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military), Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff, attended the event as the chief guest. Ambassador of Thailand to Pakistan Rongvudhi Virabutr, diplomats, defence officials, and distinguished guests were also present.

In his address, Colonel Nikhom Chumpoo said the Armed Forces Day was an occasion to honour the men and women in uniform for their discipline, dedication, and service to the nation. He noted that the day also commemorates those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of Thailand’s sovereignty and recognizes the continued contribution of Thai service members to national security and regional stability.

Highlighting bilateral relations, he said Thailand and Pakistan have enjoyed friendly ties since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1951, with defence cooperation expanding over the years on the basis of mutual respect and trust.

He referred to the 2021 Memorandum of Understanding on Defence Cooperation as a key milestone, providing a framework for dialogue, training, and professional exchanges between the armed forces of the two countries.
The Thai Defence Attaché added that cooperation includes senior-level staff dialogue, service-to-service engagement, participation in international defence and maritime forums, and military education exchanges, including training at Command and Staff Colleges in both countries.

He reaffirmed the Royal Thai Armed Forces’ commitment to enhancing cooperation, mutual understanding, and practical engagement with Pakistan and other partners.
