Karachi (TNS) Karachi Residents of Union Committee (UC) 14, Manghopir Town, are facing serious difficulties due to the deteriorating sanitation situation across all four wards. Alleged negligence and lack of attention by the Solid Waste Management authorities have resulted in heaps of garbage accumulating in various areas, while sanitation staff and garbage collection vehicles are reportedly nowhere to be seen.

The continued failure to maintain cleanliness has created serious concerns among residents, who say that garbage remains scattered across streets, neighbourhoods and residential areas. Despite the presence of relevant departments responsible for waste collection and sanitation, effective measures to address the situation appear to be lacking.

Residents have questioned why all four wards of UC-14 are suffering from such poor sanitation and why the responsible authorities have failed to ensure regular garbage collection. They have also expressed concern over the lack of accountability, asking where ordinary citizens should turn when the departments responsible for maintaining cleanliness fail to perform their duties.

Public representatives and residents have urged the Sindh Government, Manghopir Town administration and senior officials of the Solid Waste Management authorities to take immediate notice of the situation. They have demanded effective sanitation arrangements in all four wards, regular deployment of garbage collection vehicles and proper monitoring of the performance of sanitation staff.

They further called for accountability of the officers and personnel responsible for negligence and demanded appropriate action wherever failure to perform official duties is established. Residents stressed that temporary measures would not be sufficient and that a regular, effective and sustainable waste collection system must be introduced to prevent garbage from accumulating again.

The public has appealed to the relevant authorities to take immediate practical steps to restore cleanliness and provide the people of UC-14, Manghopir Town, with a clean and healthy environment. They emphasised that maintaining sanitation is a fundamental responsibility of the concerned departments and that residents should not be left to suffer because of administrative negligence.

Cleanliness is not a favour to the public; it is a fundamental right. The authorities must fulfil their responsibilities and ensure a clean environment for the residents of UC-14.
