KARACHI AUG 28 (TNS): A son of Saudi Arabia’s diplomat in Karachi and two other employees of the Saudi consulate drowned off Hawkesbay beach on Saturday night, officials said on Sunday.
All the victims were Saudi nationals who had arrived for a picnic at a hut, near Neelum Point, which belonged to the Sindh governor.
The dead were identified as Fahad Fihan Al Usaimi, the son of consulate official; Abdullah Bin Faleh Al Subai and Alaa Bin Attiya Al Quthami, both employees of the consulate.
“They were swimming in the sea when some strong waves took them away,” Mauripur SHO Niaz Panhwar said.
After receiving information about the drowning, rescue services and lifeguards rushed to the spot.
“Initially two persons were recovered. One of them was already dead while the other lost his life while being taken to a hospital,” he added.
The third body was retrieved on Saturday night, added the officer.
Their bodies were taken to a private hospital in Clifton and were later handed over to consulate officials and relatives in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The provincial government has imposed a ban on swimming due to rough sea which was in place at the time of the accident.
However, the SHO contended that the place where the incident took place was not under control of the local police so they could not enforce the ban.
